There are a variety of flavors to choose from, and you are sure to satisfy your sweet cravings, especially after spending a day outdoors in the sun. Here is a list of five shave ice stops on Maui, in the Kihei area:
1. Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice
The Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice company has been one of the favorite shave ice stores by both locals and tourists since 2008. They craft their syrups using their own unique recipes they have developed over the years. They pride themselves on using pure cane sugar and natural purees (when it calls for it) as well as ultra-purified water both in the ice and syrups. Currently, there are over 50 gluten-free flavors customers can choose from aside from the different variety of combinations and add-ons, including Roselani Ice cream. You can find Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice on Maui in Kahului, Kihei, Wailuku, and coming soon to Mā’alaea. Depending on which location, their hours may vary but they are open daily.
2. Gus’ Hawaiian Shave Ice
If you are looking for shave ice with syrups made from Maui sourced ingredients, then Gus’ Hawaiian Shave Ice is the right spot for you. The owners James and Cheryl can be found in their ice shave vehicle which happens to be a 1964 VW van, around the island to bring the unique taste of their ice shave in all of Maui. 3. Beach Street Maui
It started as a mission to introduce a unique Maui Espresso blend to the locals and visitors by Douglas Peterson, back in August of 2000 while his oldest son managed the business form a little kiosk. Then, in 2003, Douglas passed on the business to his youngest son and wife. They expanded the business to include shave ice to the selections. Then in 2017, Peterson’s oldest son and wife returned to Maui and joined the family venture. Today, they added smoothies, acai bowls, and other breakfast offerings. You can find them at 2439 S. Kihei Road.
4. Surfing Monkey Hawaiian Shave Ice
If you are looking for vegan or organic ice cream and ice shave in Maui, then Surfing Monkey Hawaiian Shave Ice is a must-visit place. Their ice shaves are all-natural flavors with no
artificial flavors added. They are conveniently located on South Kihei Road and open from 10:30 AM until 09:00 PM. This is a great recommendation for vegan free and organic choices.
5. Da Sweet Spot by Bling Bing Maui
They first opened their food truck in 2022 and have expanded to two locations today. The owner is part Chinese and brings her favorite BàoBīng dessert. The owner travelled to China and Taiwan to learn the techniques of creating and serving BàoBīng. They are the first to bring this BàoBīng dessert to Maui. Shaved ice with a condensed milk and syrup mixture served with a variety of fruits, but you should experience it for yourself to get the full impact. They also serve a Hapa (half Chinese and half Hawaiian) shave ice. They are in Kihei and open daily from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
